Wincham street scene

Our new Brook View development is located in the delightful village of Wincham.

It’s well situated in West Cheshire, only 8 miles away from the Greater Manchester border and a very commutable 17 miles from Manchester city centre.

Rich History and Heritage

Originally a salt mining village, Wincham has an interesting history and heritage to share via its attractions and museums. The Lion Salt Works in neighbouring Marston, now preserved as a museum, was still active right up to 1986. After its closure, a major £10 million restoration project began in 2005 to preserve this important reminder of its history.

The village is intersected by the Trent and Mersey canal. Formerly an essential method of transport for business, exporting salt from the mines, they are now great for walking and cycling or even a boat trip along the canal itself. The canal connects Wincham to some of Cheshire’s most treasured beauty spots and nature reserves that you can walk to, right from your (new!) doorstep.

Just minutes away is Marbury County Park, a beautiful park with stunning views and fascinating history. Formerly the grounds of a manor house, Marbury Hall, only its remains are left after demolition in the 1970s. You can learn all about the history of this grandiose building; from its original use as estate of the Marbury family, to a prisoner of war camp during the second world war. The Park and the neighbouring Budworth Mere are a great place for walks and nature spotting. There are lots of perfect picnic spots and an outdoor swimming pool, home to the Marbury Park Swimming Club.

The Lime beds at Ashton and Neuman’s flashes provide a fascinating naturalist area to go walking. These flashes (ponds) have formed on the sites of the old salt mines that were once the thriving lifeblood of the area. The presence of salt from the old mines creates a unique ecosystem unusual species of flora and fauna that you wouldn’t normally find in a place like this. Sometimes when the water levels in the flashes are low, you’re able to see the remains of the salt mine works at the bottom.

Something for Everyone

Perfect for family living, Wincham has a number of excellent schools very nearby, including excellent faith and secular schools. Wincham Community Primary School itself boasts an outstanding rating from OFSTED.

As well as the great schools there’s so much for the family to see and do. The beautiful Delamere Forest, famous Tatton Park in Knutsford and the fascinating Jodrell Bank Observatory are all only a short drive away for memorable days out. For the grown-ups, there’s plenty to do too. Pubs like the Salt Barge in Marston are village favourites with weekly quiz nights and live music to look forward to.

Nearby in Northwich there’s the Baron’s Quay complex, a multimillion-pound development for eating, drinking, shopping, entertainment and leisure. It has a multitude of shops and restaurants and an Odeon cinema, too.

People Who Care

Wincham has a close knit but welcoming community. The Parish Post keeps residents up to date with what’s going on in the village via their Facebook page or their publication: The Wincham Word. There’s lots of festive family fun to be had in the village, like the Wincham Scarecrow Trail, at Christmas the Lighten Up to Brighten Up festival and the plans are well underway for a street party this summer to get the community together and celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
