How to make your garden bloom in your new home
When you move into your new home, you’ll be so busy thinking about decorating indoors and making your new build feel like home, but it’s just as important to make sure you’re putting roots down in your garden too.
And your new garden space is perfect to start a new gardening project. Complete with plenty of landscaping, your new garden will be ready to set up the barbecue and outdoor furniture straight away, or you can put your own stamp on it, with some designing and elbow grease.
So, whether you’re a seasoned professional or a complete novice, you can make your new garden whatever you want. Here’s some ways to put a twist on your new homes’ garden.
Plant the seeds for your new builds garden
The best way to get started is to get some inspiration for your garden and create your plan of action. Once you have a plan in place, you can start your project, whether that’s completing it all at once, or one bit at a time.
We think magazines like House&Garden, Gardens Illustrated and Gardeners’ World are great to get ideas flowing. You can then create a mood board or an online pinboard on Pinterest, to keep all of your gorgeous garden ideas together.
Pave the way to your new build home
Permanent features are great to set in stone first. A path, patio, decking or wall are best to get done in the first instance so you can minimise any worries about damaging any precious plants that are already in!
Raised decking is one of our favourite permanent features because not only is it a great way to add dimension to your garden, but also a great way to divide your garden into smaller areas for planting or seating.
Time to go flower picking
Picking the flowers you want in your garden is the fun part. Deciding what colour, blossoms and aromas you want in your outdoor space, depends on entirely on what you want to see. You can choose anything from fresh lemon verbena to sleepy lavender, or perhaps some tall grasses like miscanthus that offer beauty and privacy.
This not only adds some life into your garden and makes it look pretty, but it also helps support the wider ecosystem – Attracting bees, butterflies and a bunch of other pollinators buzzing around.
Find peas of mind with a vegetable patch
The humble vegetable patch. Not only is it extra healthy to have vegetables in their freshest form, but it’s a great way to try new varieties and spend time with the family – Plus, it could even save you money!
You can create any sized space in your garden to get growing. The easiest way to make your own vegetable patch is using planters or sleepers or create a wooden raised planter with stakes, gravel boards or railway sleepers. Any of these will support you in growing your own delicious veg and it’s easier than you think.
Turn your new home wild with a mini-grove
A mini grove of trees could answer all your landscaping dreams. Planting lots of small trees won’t need nearly as much space as you think to create your perfectly private planetary.
Why not try a closely planted group of birches, their white trunks have a brightening effect and their foliage makes for a nice shady canopy, ideal for a restful retreat in your own back garden. Add some stepping stones, leading up to a seating area to make a magical path to serenity. Sprinkle some wildflower for extra charm to impress your guests and neighbours!
