5 reasons you should buy a new build home
When it comes to choosing a new build home or a second-hand property, there is a lot to consider, in what would work best for you and your family. To help you make your choice, we’ve put together 5 reasons why a new build might tick all of the boxes on your ‘must haves’ list, when looking to move.
- Go Green
It’s no surprise that with modern methods of construction, new build homes use 57% less energy, on average, compared to an equivalent second-hand home. With increased insulation, water saving fixtures and fittings, EV chargers, responsibly sourced timber, A/A+ rated appliances and PV solar panels, we can lower our buyers carbon footprint and energy bills in just one year. Recent figures from the House Builder Federation (HBF) report in 2022, has showed that purchasers of a new build home can save up to £3,100 a year, compared to older homes on the market. Lowering our purchasers bills, means they have more money to spend elsewhere, on the fun stuff!
Our most energy efficient homes yet, over at Brook View in Wincham, have received a Next Generation Eco Award for their attributes. The silver status award was granted for exceeding mandatory sustainability standards, highlighted as, the use of sustainable building methods, increased biodiversity, responsible employment practices and the provision of affordable homes.
- Longer lasting technologies
With new regulations that housebuilders and developers have to abide by to meet exacting standards by certain deadlines, most new build homes will have modern technologies and features to last a lifetime.
Introduced by the government, was the ‘zero carbon ready by 2025’ regulation that states all new homes will be required to reduce carbon emissions by 75% by 2025, in preparation to be completely carbon zero by 2035. Housebuilders and developers can do this through various methods such as increased insulation, low air permeability, use of double or triple glazed windows, increased use of renewables and more. We’ve touched on how energy efficient our new build homes already are, but in addition to this, is the implementation of modern technologies, ensuring our homeowners are prepared for the future. PV solar panels and EV charging points are making properties that much more efficient and carbon neutral, and we are are now including this, as part of our standard specification.
Russell Homes purchasers should rest assured that their homes are future proofed by us, for years to come, through the use of renewable energy sources that come as standard on our homes.

- We’ve got it covered
We really have got your new home covered. New builds often come with a range of warranties, from the builder and an external warranty provider as standard. These warranties champion high-quality homes, through the standards they supply that housebuilders must comply with. They ensure defects with the property are covered, built in accordance with guidelines and are inspected and signed off at each stage by a qualified inspector. You would not receive any of the same warranties with a second-hand property and any defects that need to be done, would be covered by yourselves. Further bumping up your expenditure, possibly before you have even moved into the property.
Your Russell Home will be covered by a 10 year warranty provided by the NHBC, with the first 2 years being covered by Russell Homes. For more information on the warranties provided by Russell Homes, click here.
- Make it your own
New build homes provide the perfect blank canvas to start fresh with. Complete with high-quality materials and a superior standard specification, there is no need for any DIY before you settle in. This makes it even easier for you to add your own twist to your new home. Whether you’re crazy about colour or mad for monochrome, you can add as much personality as you wish. With an ideal base, you can add a splash of paint, wallpaper or try out some bang on trend, panelling.
And don’t forget, it’s just as important that you’re putting down roots in your garden, as well as indoors. There are lots of ways that you can make your new garden bloom, from planting to paving and flowers to furniture, adding those finishing touches you’ve always dreamt of.
Our customers can get on with living straight away in a Russell Home and our buyers can relax, knowing that your new build has been delivered with the upmost care.

- Chain free
Our last, but definitely not least reason to buy a new build over a second-hand home is that there is never an upward chain. As you will be the first ever owner of this home, you don’t need to worry about an upward chain slowing down the purchasing process by waiting for the previous owners to find another home. This is a key hold up that purchasers experience when opting for a second-hand property, and a new build home completely removes this stress.
When purchasing a Russell Home, we always offer our customers the option to use one of our panel of solicitors, which can further speed up the buying process. It is not a requirement that our purchasers use our solicitors, however, we recommend them as they are familiar with how we work, the new build sales process (which is very different to the existing housing market) and our developments, which ensures a smooth transaction into your new home.
Please note: Russell Homes receives no remuneration from the solicitors. We do it strictly to make our purchasers life easier.
With a focus on quality, Russell Homes aims to build the best homes we can, so you can fall in love with your new build home, for years to come.
